EuroPerve 2017: looking forward to some Rubber Rituals in Amsterdam!
EuroPerve 2017, the sixth edition of DeMask’s revived Amsterdam fetish party, moves forward a month to early September, thus avoiding a repeat of last year’s unfortunate clash with London’s Rubber Cult, which attracts a similar crowd. The Dutch event has also found a new venue, with a hotel attached, as Tony Mitchell reveals in this preview of the 2017 line-up, complete with galleries from 2016. EuroPerve VI: Rubber Rituals, to use its full title, is the sixth outing for the resurrected DeMask party, now co-hosted by DeMask’s owners Anton and Louva with René of Wasteland.
This year’s party has moved forward a full month to Saturday September 9. At the same time, it has quit its WesterUnie venue and relocated to Q-Factory, a live music/dance venue and rehearsal space in the north of the city.
The owners of Q-Factory have just opened a hotel adjacent to the venue, and it is offering a promotional rate there for the three nights of the party weekend: Friday, Saturday and Sunday September 8, 9 and 10.
This could well make the event even more attractive to the international kinksters who have been attending in increasing numbers with each successive EuroPerve.
Happily also (unlike last year), this year’s date doesn’t clash with London’s Rubber Cult — which attracts a similar kind of dresscode-committed fetish crowd.
So there is a hope that more Cult regulars will make it to September’s Rubber Rituals, combining a weekend in Amsterdam (never a bad idea) with the chance to check out how their continental cousins cater for a proper fetish audience.
The basic format of these revived EuroPerve parties is now well established. As with Rubber Cult, the socialising aspect — the chance to be surrounded by, and to connect with, like-minded pervs — is a high priority.
But the bigger production values of the Dutch event also mean you can expect a proper stage and catwalk, decent stage lighting and a professional sound system.
And while not aiming to be a dance party, EuroPerve’s offering does include professional DJ-ing that provides more than just ambient background music.
‘Playful’ would be a good overall description of the atmosphere at a EuroPerve event. For many this just means friendly social banter with properly clad people.
But for some, it’s about acting out sub/dom roles with your partner, or having a go on some of the equipment usually found at the back of the auditorium.
Traditionally, the onstage entertainment includes a single fashion show — presented by DeMask and showcasing each year’s new clothing collection — plus up to four additional stage acts.
But Louva tells us she plans to depart from tradition for this year’s fashion show. “I’ve decided to show our very best heavy rubber collection,” she says. “but I do not want the usual catwalk, and that is the surprise.
“I believe what I want to do has never been done, in our industry at least.”
Previous EuroPerve fashion shows have always featured well-known Dutch fetish models such as Ellen Lovebite, Dutch Dame and Miss Mirjana.
Mirjana, for example, was the star of last year’s fashion show coup de théàtre, wearing a fabulous silver torpedo-titted and corseted gown with inflatable pink headdress and long pink train (see top of page).
Louva’s past fashion shows have also featured various ‘guest models’ who, owing to her persuasiveness, may well be fetish scene ‘names’ not normally accustomed to being on a catwalk.
Last year, for example, when EuroPerve celebrated DeMask’s 30th anniversary (albeit, as it turned out, a year late!), guest models included Marquis founder Peter Czernich and veteran promoter Roberto of Clinic parties and Absolute Suite fame.
The finale of that show saw DeMask founder Steve English coming onstage hand in hand with one of his original Amsterdam associates, Vivid Angel, who also performed later in her own right.
All I will say about her act is that if she ever invites me round for tea, I think I’ll take my own teapot with me, just to be on the safe side.
I can’t remember now what soundtrack she chose for her performance with her well-toned submissive partner — but let’s just say The Stooges’ I Wanna Be Your Dog wouldn’t have been a bad choice!
Mistress Kassi will be performing again at Europerve 2017. I dread to think what she’ll get up to this time.
Other performances scheduled for this year include, from Denmark, Tamed + Transformed: Sebastian Solo vs Artiflexual featuring Farspige. One or two more acts may yet be announced.
Local dommes who always participate generously in the event include the legendary Mistress Madieanne — whose contribution last time included a ‘group hooding’ tribute to the late Alexander Horn — and Miss Suzn, whose doorbitch skills are second to none.
Last year’s international domina contingent at EuroPerve was boosted by two legendary names from different continents: Isabella Sinclair from Los Angeles and Mistress Tokyo from Sydney.
I’ve known Isabella for ages (her Ivy Manor establishment in LA was the setting for many classic videos from GwenMedia, the company she now owns). So it was a lovely surprise to see her.
Apparently it was more or less chance that she was in Amsterdam when last year’s event was on. But this year she has planned a visit that specifically coincides with EuroPerve 2017, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing her there again.
Mistress Tokyo was, in the days of the original Fetishistas website, my Australian correspondent. But we had never met in the flesh until she finally put together her first European trip last October.
In Amsterdam, we both ended up staying with Madieanne and her partner Erik (of Foto fame). Moreover, Massad magazine’s redoubtable Bert Wibo was kind enough to put his Saturday afternoon and his car at our disposal for a whirlwind tour of the city’s fetish hotspots.
We visited Jeroen van der Klis in his Bizarre Design atelier in the Tussen de Bogen railway arches, the big Mister B store on Warmoestraat and of course the DeMask store on Zeedijk.
There, Ms Tokyo bought a polished steel strap-on that she figured would perfectly augment the outfit she was planning to wear to the party (which it did).
Having spent a fairly intense period in her company that weekend, I can tell you that you will not meet a truer pervert than this woman — from the top of her steel neckbrace to the tips of her 12-inch stilettos.
I hope she makes it back to Europe again soon!
Other international dommes you can expect to bump into in Amsterdam this year include Lady Bellatrix from London/Paris, and Mistresses Katharina and Maria Santa Lawrence.
On the basis of previous EuroPerves, I’m pretty confident this year’s event will be another enjoyable night out for the fetish community.
I can’t wait to check out the new venue — and check into its hotel. Previous venue WesterUnie, on the site of a converted gasworks, was interesting in a raw industrial kind of way.
But I will certainly not miss the long, cold walk to the taxi rank at five in the morning.
