Party like it’s 2023: Worldwide events NYE 2022-NYE 2023

JANUARY 2023 COVER STORY: Since our last global party round-up in October, fetish event organisers have been working on their 2023 schedules. As a result, our new worldwide roundup lists a great many new dates spanning a full year from New Year’s Eve 2022 to New Year’s Eve 2023, with our 2023 listings growing from just 20 to 110 by publication time. Our three-page round-up is divided into UK, Europe and USA/Canada/Rest of World listings, with every event linked to its organiser’s website, social media or ticket agency for fast access to more info. Yes, it’s true: this article contains not far off 100 completely new 2023 listings since our October round-up (as well as the 20 that appeared in that earlier story).

We even preface our 2023 info with a few listings for New Year’s Eve 2022 parties, since these should all still be going strong on January 1 2023!

But some 2023 events you might expect to find here had not been publicly announced in time for inclusion with our initial publication of this article.

For while some big players like Torture Garden in the UK and Fetish Factory in the US have already published dates for pretty much every event they’ll be hosting in 2023, other organisers feel obliged to play their cards closer to their chests. There are a variety of reasons for this.

For example, ‘part-time’ promoters running small-scale or irregular events may not necessarily have the resources to commit to firm dates for a whole year ahead. In some cases they don’t even risk publicising any events at all beyond the imminent one they’re selling tickets for at any given time.

This might suggest that some organisers just aren’t very well, er, organised.

But it’s often just a reflection of the conditions under which events now have to be put together, a major contributing factor being the increasing uncertainties around venue availability in recent years.

The pandemic has of course been one very direct cause of some venue closures.

But in many locations, loss of venues has been going on for much longer. And a frequent cause has been redevelopment of prime sites occupied by theatres and clubs, usually for more profitable housing projects.

Consequently in London, for example, we see the world’s biggest fetish partying brand, Torture Garden, now having to split what used to be its biggest single events across two or more nights in smaller venues.

Meanwhile in Berlin, the host of the German Fetish Ball Weekend, our scene’s most prestigious international multi-day festival, still doesn’t know whether the Ball itself will be able to return in 2023 to its traditional Spindler & Klatt venue after last year’s forced relocation to Club Ost.

If this is what some of the biggest brands in the business have to deal with, what hope is there for small and medium-sized ventures of having a better experience?

So, we apologise if you don’t see an expected event in these listings yet. However, we will be monitoring fetish promoters’ online spaces for new announcements, and we’ll update our initial listings as new dates are publicised.
