ABOUT THE BEYOND BIZARRE FUNDING CAMPAIGN
If you’re not in France or Belgium, you may not be familiar with Proarti.fr, the French platform chosen for the initial Beyond Bizarre crowdfunding campaign.
It’s similar in most respects to platforms like Kickstarter, although it differs in a couple of respects. As a site dedicated to supporting arts projects, it offers French and Belgian residents the chance to get tax relief on their donations (a bit like the UK’s Gift Aid scheme).
If you’re outside France and Belgium, this tax incentive is not available to you. But as an international backer you can still pledge a donation for which a choice of rewards are on offer, as listed below.
Beyond Bizarre campaign rewards
Sweet Daddy Pack: €10 gets you a big thankyou and warm feeling inside.
Faithful Fred Pack: €25 gets your name in the movie credits, in honour of Gwendoline’s (unseen) benefactor.
Loyal Zaza Pack: €50 gets you a private link to the film, as befits the Countess’s loyal maid (plus the previous rewards).
Fiery Lightning Pack: €100 gets you a poster of the film signed by the directors as swiftly as Gwendoline’s spirited horse (plus the previous rewards).
Daring Agent U69 Pack: €200 gets you a tote bag (plus the previous rewards).
Devious Countess Pack: €500 gets you a silk-screen print (limited to 20) of a John Willie drawing as befits your mastermind status (plus the previous rewards).
Foul Sir d’Arcy Pack: €1000 gets you an original print (limited to 10) of a photo by John Willie (plus the previous rewards) — because you want it all!
How easy is it to donate from outside France and Belgium? On the original, partly-bilingual version of the campaign site, the guide to donating and claiming tax relief was only in French, reflecting the campaign’s initial target audience.
However, the Beyond Bizarre team agreed that this was something of a deterrent to non-
French speakers, and have now added a lot more information in English for potential international supporters.
New English content on the campaign site now includes an FAQs section that more clearly explains about the funding targets and how the rewards for different pledge levels will work (in terms of when backers get their rewards, etc).
Although the ‘ideal target’ is €16,000 for this campaign, pledges will become due when the total amount reaches €5,000.
Despatch of rewards will, depending on the reward, be in two months to one year’s time (September 2022 being the projected release date of the film).
Also, the team created a new cartoon-type English tutorial cleverly using frames from Sweet Gwendoline to help non-French-Speakers navigate the donation options as painlessly as possible.
This tutorial can now be found on the campaign site, but is also reproduced below.
