Lash! returns: Guerrero’s dark fetish soirée heads for Epiphany
CHICAGO’S LASH! PARTY, the brainchild of photographer Alejandra Guerrero, returns on August 22 for its second edition, but in a bigger venue– the city’s Epiphany Center for the Arts. This year’s attractions include performer Sally Marvel, fashion by Jane Doe Latex and a DJ set by David J of Love & Rockets and Bauhaus fame. A clearly excited Alejandra took time out from her final preparations to provide us with both an overview of Lash!’s debut night – with photos by herself and Matt Reeves – and a preview of this year’s gathering, complete with promo video and stills she shot for it. Highly-regarded Chicago-based photographer and Fetishistas friend Alejandra Guerrero, aka Corporate Vampire, will be presenting the second edition of Lash!, her ‘dark fetish soiree’ launched in Chicago last year, on Saturday August 22 at a fresh location in the US city.
Jointly organised again with party promoter Sanctum, Lash! relocates this month to Chicago’s Epiphany Center for the Arts, a former church converted into a massive, unique event space described by Alejandra as “a truly exceptional location”.
Among the many highlights of this second edition are performance by Sally Marvel, a fashion show by Jane Doe Latex, and a DJ Set by David J of Love & Rockets and Bauhaus fame (also known to some of us as the ‘other half’ of fetish modelling legend Darenzia).

Looking back on last year’s Lash! debut

Alejandra Guerrero reveals that last year’s Lash! debut exceeded all her expectations, with around 500 people attending.
“I received so many wonderful compliments from strangers and long-time friends in the Goth and Kink communities — people I’ve known for two decades — thanking me for throwing such an event, with many asking if we would bring it back.
“It truly felt like it filled a void in our local community, which was missing an event of this scale. A few people even travelled from out of state to attend.
“Some of my oldest friends even compared it to ’90s parties at Dome Room, Medusa’s and Crobar, which were legendary, long-gone Chicago clubs central to the industrial and alternative scenes.”
Last year’s venue, Morgan MFG (a former rubber factory!) already had that gritty industrial look, she explains.
“But what made it truly unique were the visuals Videowaste projected on the main dancefloor, along with TV screens set up throughout the space.
“It felt like a party from another era — dark, gritty, and experimental — with most attendees embracing the dresscode and showing up in their absolute fetish best.”
The performers engaged for the debut Lash! night also put on what the photographer describes as “a hell of a sexy show, ranging from classic nylon burlesque routines to whip work, angle grinders, rope suspension, and a very naughty (and dirty!) act featuring fluids”.
In addition, pal Alyssa Norman of LA’s Black Lickorish Latex provided a fashion show, while the venue’s second floor featured domme demos, which drew “a massive line of eager participants”, safe in the knowledge that they would not be photographed!

The success of the debut event was what encouraged Alejandra Guerrero and Sanctum to “go a bit bigger” when the opportunity arose to move Lash! to the Epiphany Center for this year’s date.
“I’ve attended events there hosted by my party partner Sanctum before,” she says, “most recently the Vampire Ball earlier this year. So when it came time to plan Lash! again, we loved how open-minded they were about hosting us.
“We’re utilising two floors of the venue: the main Sanctuary space, where most of the performances will take place, and the Catacombs, which will feature a more intimate and naughty vibe with DJs and dungeon/play demos.”

“We have several new performers in the line-up, along with returning favourites like Seph Victor performing rope, and my dear collaborator Sally Marvel, who is featured on the event flyer.
“Sally is one of the top performers in Chicago and has taken the stage at almost every event I’ve hosted going back to 2013. Beyond being one of my favourite models, we have a long history together, so she comes with the party as long as I’m involved!”
Alejandra reveals that she shot the flyer artwork as a self-portrait. “While Sally is front and centre in the photo, those legs at the bottom are mine!” she confesses.
“I wanted some mysterious legs to add a bit of a noir personal touch. I was lying on the floor triggering the shutter via a mobile app. I can tell you, directing a shot from that angle was an experience!
“I wanted to visually speak the language of
video, since the event will heavily feature visuals by Videowaste to transform the space once again. So I borrowed a CRT TV and a surveillance camera from them to get creative.
“My vision was to capture the feel of an iconic vintage fetish or adult magazine cover, so I provided our designer with cover references from vintage issues of AtomAge, Bizarre, Skin Two, and <O>.
“Lastly, I shot a fun video promo on site at the venue featuring two of our event performers: cover girl Sally Marvel and Mizuko Sparks. I simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to create in such a gorgeous space!”
This year, thanks to Lash! No2, Jane Doe Latex (owned by LA-based expat Brit Nina Kate) will be making its Chicago runway debut.
“I’ve collaborated with Nina on photos before,” says Guerrero, “but I’m so excited to have her showcase her designs down the Lash! catwalk.

SHADOWY CHARACTERS: Alejandra with David J, who’s playing a special guest DJ set at Lash!
“Musically, we have a fantastic lineup of DJs curated by Sanctum. On top of that, my own musical addition to the party is rock legend and friend David J (of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets), who will be joining us with a special DJ set!
“We’re also expanding to include vendors this year. House of SXN is joining us all the way from Florida, so if you need a last-minute addition to your outfit, we’ve got you covered.
“I’ll also have a booth set up with my fine art prints and books. What else can I say? I think people are going to be completely blown away by what we’ve built in this space — it’s going to be a total feast for the senses!”
