YAZ: ABDUCTION short film views her hospitalisation through lens of Greek myth, BDSM and fetish. WARNING: the film starts with Yaz screaming as she’s dragged into the hospital. So if that might be triggering for you, be ready to hit the mute button
This brings us neatly to Yaz’s choice of wardrobe for Abduction the film. Not only does the film depict her in a number of fab Dark Garden creations, but the label’s founder Autumn Adamme also acted as her dresser and corset-lacer on the project.
“She’s a dear friend,” Yaz explains, “and I am always so excited to share Dark Garden’s amazing work and lineage.
“For those who don’t know, I am a professional tightlacer, and am tightlaced into a corset every day. It is an act of discipline and self-actualisation that brings me so much joy, and as an artist allows me to create more extreme visuals in my work.
“My interest in corseting and tightlacing started when I was a child, and I always dreamed of having the ultimate hourglass silhouette. Four years ago, I finally took the plunge and began waist training formally.
“At the very beginning, I was looking to buy a steel-boned corset online, and after doing a lot of research, came to the conclusion that with what I wanted to do, I needed to go in person and be fitted properly to ensure I would be waist training safely.
“I had heard about Dark Garden’s amazing work through my research, and decided I wanted to get my first corset from them.
“I was going back and forth between Los Angeles and visiting my grandmother in Northern California at the time, so I was lucky to be nearby and able to go into Dark Garden’s San Francisco shop easily.
“From the moment I stepped into the shop and put on my first corset, I knew I was home. It was truly a magical experience and I left with my first underbust corset that I trained with until I sized out of it.
“About a year after that, I was working on my first album, Inferno, and decided that I wanted a bodysuit corset for the main look in the music video I made for the record’s second single Heresy.
“Bodysuit corsets are very challenging to make. Very few corsetiersmake them, and virtually no one makes them in patent leather and with the proportions that I wanted.
“Fortunately, for me, Dark Garden was up to the task. Autumn and I worked together to create the ultimate fantasy fetish corset and produced what she has described as one of Dark Garden’s greatest pieces.”
No surprise, then, that, given Dark Garden’s history and continued presence in the fetish community, and Autumn’s knowledge both of the ability of Yaz’s body to tightlace and the silhouettes she wanted, working with Dark Garden was a natural choice for Abduction.
“Initially, we had discussed creating one new look. But as the video came into further form, it became increasingly evident that it was going to be a full on fetish fashion film,” Yaz admits.
“I explained the concept to Autumn and what I was looking for, and she jumped onboard, and was kind enough to open up not only Dark Garden’s archives, but also her personal wardrobe for me to pull looks from.
“A lot of the outfits that I’m wearing in the video, particularly the hobble dresses, are actually older than I am, which is a testament to Dark Garden‘s incredible work.
“The longevity of the pieces, and the fact that, despite being created over 30 years ago, they are arguably still better and more cutting-edge than most if not all of the corsetry that has been created since, shows the brilliance of Autumn and the entire Dark Garden team.
“Not to mention, everything that I was wearing was extremely comfortable, which is not an easy feat when you are tightlacing to the extent that I do.
“There is no one else in the world that could bring to life my creative visions in the way that Dark Garden does,” she insists.
“Having a collaborator that not only has the technical skill to create what I am looking for, but also believes in my vision, and that what I want to do is possible, is the greatest gift I could ever be given.
“I cannot recommend Dark Garden enough, and I’m so incredibly grateful for Autumn, and all that she does.”
Tightlaced! The Dark Garden corsets used in Abduction

AUTUMN ADAMME laces me into a 1990s vintage Dark Garden Leather Hobble Dress for my Abduction film. The shoes I’m wearing are vintage seven-inch stilettos from Little Shoe Box.
A VINTAGE Dark Garden Ankle-Length Hobble Dress from the early ’90s. From my understanding they don’t make many hobble dresses any more because they don’t get many orders for them, but they are still able to make them. The closest style in what they have now would be the Corset Dress on their website. More photos of it at the bottom of this panel.
A CUSTOM Dark Garden Grable Bodysuit Corset in black patent leather. We actually made this corset for the music video for my song Heresy off my last record, Inferno. It’s a pipestem bodysuit corset, and from my understanding is the only one of its kind in the world, as Autumn and I worked together to create that shape during our fittings.
AN UNDERBUST Corset Hobble Dress (with a separate bra part not by Dark Garden). This piece is also vintage, I believe from the 90s.
The closest offering they have to this now is their Corset Dress, which can be modified to be an underbust style.
THIS OUTFIT is from the Invocation collection. I believe the corset is the Alexandra style, which normally has a detachable shoulder harness — we just didn’t use the harness for Abduction. The matching skirt is not corseted, it’s just one of Dark Garden’s couture pieces.
THIS OUTFIT is also a corset hobble dress. This piece is really special because it’s actually from Autumn’s personal closet and was made in the early ’90s.
THERE’S ALSO the hospital look (below, centre), which can’t be seen very well in the video. I am wearing a vintage camp fan lacing girdle from Autumn’s collection as a skirt, and a separate girdle from her collection as a top that we converted into a very Westwoodesque bustier top. On top of both pieces I am wearing one of Autumn‘s underbust corsets from her personal closet. She wore this one in Paris while working with Mister Pearl in 2016.
