Ifa Brand – Boudoir: fetish selfies book now funding on Kickstarter.
Ifa Brand – Boudoir is talented Belgian model and photographer Ifa Brand’s first book, due for publication in October by David Jenkins’ London-based Circa Press.
It’s the latest addition to Circa’s growing fetish/erotica photobook strand. And, like the Circa volumes from Steve Diet Goedde and Alejandra Guerrero, it will be part-funded by a Kickstarter campaign, just launched.
Ifa has been shooting self-portraits since late 2017. Her journey from model to photographer and self-portraitist was, she says, prompted by her growing frustrations with the modelling world, and the desire to seize artistic control of her own image.
Inspired by pioneers of fetish style such as Charles Guyette and Gene Bilbrew, and 1950s pin-ups Bettie Page and Jayne Mansfield, she has created her own distinctive fusion of old-school glamour and fetish art.
From the beginning, Ifa Brand chose to work exclusively with Polaroid, whose graininess and technical limitations she purposely exploits.
The result is a series of atmospheric portraits that tantalisingly convey her personal explorations of sensuality and eroticism.
The overall look created for the book by designer Jean-Michel Dentand uses many of Ifa’s images at the original Polaroid print size to preserve the full character of the medium. The rest appear at larger scale, up to full-page size.
Ifa Brand – Boudoir measures 25 × 20cm (10 × 8in) and has 70 colour images spread across 128 pages, with hard covers.
The book’s foreword is by Nora Kobrenik, Russian-born, US-based photographer, model, stylist, designer and artist, and founder/editor-in-chief of Tartarus magazine.
The Kickstarter campaign for Ifa Brand – Boudoir runs for four weeks and, as usual, features a series of rewards for pledges of increasing value.
All rewards for pledges from Autograph level (£50) upward include a signed copy of the book, and all book packages can be shipped anywhere in the world.
Above Autograph are four further pledge levels: Silver (£95 or more); Gold (£155 or more); Collector’s Boxed (£325 or more) and Patron’s Boxed (£695 or more).
These higher pledge levels all include a signed copy of the book plus various combinations of prints.
The two top levels present everything in limited edition deluxe clamshell boxes, and the Patron’s version features an original Ifa Brand Polaroid signed and dated by her.
The fundraising target is £15,000 to guarantee publication of the book.
And of course, pledges are only ‘cashed in’ if the campaign reaches its target by June 9. Rewards should then ship in September.
