FAB relaunch brings veteran scenesters to Stables Market .
The FAB relaunch, marking the London fetish store’s move to larger premises in Camden’s Stables Market, was celebrated with a well-attended party last Wednesday, March 21.
The new store is bigger than the old place, and Max is no longer sharing a unit with another business.
But at the FAB relaunch party, so many people turned up that for much of the time it felt even more jammed than the original shop.
The increase in floor and wall space has allowed Max to add new clothing and accessory lines and to display more artwork.
On launch night, the shelving along the whole of the rear wall was largely devoted to a display of Pleaser shoes and boots, a brand new line from FAB available in male as well as female sizes.
Other imminent new lines include a selection if wigs, while further stock from FAB’s current roster of design- ers has already been delivered, with more to come.
Max says he’s also presently in talks to add brand new designers to the FAB store’s offering, details of which will follow when they’re confirmed.
The FAB relaunch party, co-hosted of course by Marnie Scarlet, Max’s other half, attracted a great mix of people from young fashionistas to designers and other early London scene movers and shakers.
Among those we spotted were Garry Vanderhorne of Resistance Gallery, Lily and Leanne from Libidex, James and Ms Posha from Fetish Map London, designer Ana Mantis, DJ and scene veteran deebee and model Maz Spencer.
It was quite touching to see so many of the ‘old crowd’ turning up to help give the new shop a memorable first night — a sign, surely, of the loyalty owner Max inspires across all generations of the scene.
In case you’re not familiar with this part of north London, Stables Market is the northernmost and largest of Camden’s market spaces.
Located on Chalk Farm Road, it is bounded by the famous Gilgamesh restaurant at its southern edge and by Morrison’s supermarket and Chalk Farm tube station at its northern end.
Access to the new FAB store is via the main entrance of the market, and then down the long stepped ramp on the right that was used by the horses when the market was a working stables and horse hospital.
Turn sharp left at the bottom of the stairs and FAB is the unit immediately before the Oi!Oi! shop, whose black and white sign hanging from the corridor ceiling is a handy indication that you’re in the right place!
FAB’s official street address is: Unit 456, The Basement Market, The Stables, Chalk Farm Road, London NW1 8AH (tel: +44 7958 217175).
Opening hours of the new shop are: Mon closed; Tue/Wed/Thu 13.00–19.00; Fri/Sat/Sun 12.00–19.00. Check FAB’s Facebook page for any changes.
