The book, based on Gloger’s distinctive photography of top latex models such as Kay Morgan, Ophelia Overdose and Sister Sinister, has been completed in digital form.
It only requires crowdfunding for the final stage: the printing that will turn it into a physical book, for projected delivery in August.
The aim of the Kickstarter project is to raise a minimum of €5,500 by May 15. As long as that amount or more is pledged by the deadline, printing of the book will be funded.
PRINT PROMISE: Shadow Vegas’s 200 images will come on 72 square format, full-colour pages measuring 290x290mm, with hard covers
If you’ve followed The Fetishistas for a while, you should certainly be aware of the work of Bonn-based Gloger. He is a professional fashion and advertising photographer; fetish is his ‘private work’, to which he brings all the skills and resources of the day-job.
We’ve used his imagery for three covers, featuring Kari Berg (Fantastic Rubber), Latex Lucy (Rubber55) and Marie Kalista (Fantastic Rubber) and he was the subject of a portfolio article in the first year of the original Fetishistas site (Archive links below).
And having worked with him at close quarters (in the ladies’ toilets at the German Fetish Fair to shoot our June 2012 cover with Kari Berg, if you must know), I reckon anyone who were to sign up for one of his Kickstarter photo-shoot rewards in Cologne or Las Vegas would most likely have a very agreeable time!
Those who have followed his progress since those earlier Fetishistas articles will probably have noticed that rather than churning out lots of fetish pictures on a monthly basis, Marcus tends to make less frequent but bigger splashes with single images that have clearly had much love and artistic labour put into them.
And with the appearance of some of these images, he has alluded to a long-term art project — a project that has now finally come to fruition under the title of Shadow Vegas. He explains how it began:
“I cannot draw, but I love comics and I can take pictures. The answer was obvious: to do a comic book by taking all the pictures with my camera.
“I took some pictures to show friends what I had in mind, and I convinced quite a few people to work on the project with me.”
MAIL MODELS: Pledging €15 via Kickstarter will get you this set of five Shadow Vegas postcards
Collaborators included models, actors, an author, fashion designers, graphic designers and even Citroen Germany, who supplied Marcus with an amazing-looking prototype Citroen GT for an exclusive shoot.
He also shot with two 1971 examples of the Citroen SM (the revolutionary collaboration with Maseratti that must be surely the ultimate model name for a perv to own) and one Citroen GS from 1977.
“After we had written the plot I started taking pictures,” the photographer explains. “But I underestimated the work we had to do in post-production.
“I think it is not possible to count all the hours that went into the project,” Gloger admits. Everybody who was involved, he says, did it alongside their normal work, “just driven by passion for this idea”.
It’s a once in a lifetime project, he adds, and one that genuinely took years to finish. But now it’s done.
One prototype copy of the book has been printed, and the pictures and video accompanying this article give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.
Shadow Vegas is a big hardcover book in square format, its dimensions of 290x290mm just a few millimetres short of full A4 paper height. It has 72 full-colour pages containing more than 200 pictures.
“I decided not to issue a pdf or digital version,” says its creator. “You have to hold this book in your hands, with its exceptional size and quality. Hold it, feel it. When you do, you will know that size matters!”
Aside from Kay Morgan, Ophelia Overdose and Sister Sinister, Shadow Vegas stars Isaja, Dr Mark Benecke, Maik Giesbert, Ulf H Czellnik and many more.
“The story is about a completely new world where people are chasing after an electronic device to gain world domination,” Marcus reveals.
“You get a little idea of what the device can do when you see one of the main characters turn from a computer nerd to a superheroine.
“Shadow Vegas is the name of one of the characters pulling strings behind the scenes, and stays in the background.
“There is nobody in this story who wants to save the world from all of its evils.”
BIKER CHIC: Get this signed art print of Gloger’s famous Motorcycle picture with your copy of Shadow Vegas when you pledge €99.
What sort of rewards are on offer to backers who pledge support via Kickstarter for the book’s printing?
All but the two very cheapest rewards (€10 for ‘community membership’ and a thank-you page mention in the book; €15 for a set of five Shadow Vegas postcards, below left) include a copy of the book, shipped free anywhere in the world.
The 15 earlybird rewards of a book at €40 have already gone, so at time of writing, the cheapest pledge that will get you a copy of Shadow Vegas is €49.
Pledge €56 and you get the book plus community membership and a credit on the book’s thank-you page.
For a pledge of €75 you get the book plus your choice of fine art print from a selection of six (see gallery).
Increase that to €99 and your book will come with a signed fine art print of Gloger’s famous Motorcycle picture (above).
Pledging €120 entitles you to two Gloger books: Shadow Vegas and a signed copy of his limited edition Glossy photo-book with 96 pages of latex fashion photography.
Finally, there are two photo-shoot rewards on offer.
For €1,500, you can attend an exclusive Shadow Vegas-style shoot in Cologne with Marcus and one of his three fetish model stars — Sister Sinister, Kay Morgan or Ophelia Overdose — and take away a personally-dedicated copy of the book.
And a pledge of €4,000 will get you attendance at and participation in a Shadow Vegas-style shoot in Las Vegas, again with Marcus and one of the book’s fetish model stars — Kay Morgan, Sister Sinister or Ophelia Overdose — plus a personally dedicated book.
