The big news about this year’s five-day programme is the rearranging of two of the official supporting events owing to the closure of DarkSide Club, where the play-orientated events would have been held (as usual) this year.
The first casualty of the closure is the GFB VIP Reception and Play Night that was scheduled for Thursday May 10.
The GFB 2018 update sees it replaced by a revamped version of last year’s Sonic Boom party, the Sunday night event staged in a part of Matrix, the old Ball venue.
The new Thursday night party is called GFB Sonic Boom and VIP Reception. This is now the official pre-party of the 2018 weekend (not to be confused with Kinky Cocktails taking place the night before).
The new event promises an opportunity to mingle with models, artists, designers, fair vendors and possibly even the odd online magazine publisher.
The karaoke that was a feature of last year’s Sonic Boom has been dropped; in its place will be a BDSM play area (Thursday night originally had a play element), a dancefloor featuring disco and ’80s/90s music (“no electro house”, we’re assured) and shows.
The VIP reception will take place there from 9pm to 10pm, at which time the ‘party proper’ starts.
The second event change of the GFB 2018 update comes on Friday 11, when Sweet Surrender, the weekend’s main BDSM play night originally at DarkSide, also transfers to Matrix, with its atmospheric vaults.
Says organiser René of Xklusiv: “We’ll extend the play area from the night before and turn the Narva Lounge of the Matrix Club into a real nice dungeon, with all the BDSM equipment from our legendary castle parties”.
Of course, if you’ve already bought tickets for the original versions of the two DarkSide parties, they will be valid for the replacement events at Matrix. But note that only the GFB VIP ticket (€135) will get you into the VIP reception at Matrix before Sonic Boom.
The German Fetish Fair taking place on Friday/Saturday May 11/12 is now fully subscribed with some 30 exhibitors scheduled to show there.
You’ll see from our full list of vendors below that this year’s fair is very much about fetish fashion, with only a couple of vendors selling BDSM toys.
So with the 2018 fair’s strong emphasis on clothing, says René, “We can gladly say we found the perfect niche.” Given the longstanding focus on fashion shows at the Ball, it’s hard to fault his logic!
The 2018 GFB’s Mistress of Ceremonies, not chosen at the time of our February preview, will be model and fashion student Myriel Monastic — seen in our picture above modelling latex by VinNoir, one of this year’s catwalk participants.
The GFB catwalk itself is currently one down on its original complement of seven designers, following the withdrawal of Chiracc.
It’s possible, however, that the number will be back up to seven by the time the GFB Weekend opens.
The new line-up of six designers at the time of this GFB 2018 update is: Amentium, Jaded Jewall, Mrs Gravedigger Latex, My Witchery, VinNoir Latex, and Torture Garden Latex X by Marie Devilreux.
In February we had no details of other stage shows at the Ball. Now we can confirm two performances, with the possibility that one more will still be added.
First of the two confirmed shows is the Rose Davidovs Project (Jessie Rose and Enriko Davidovs). Check out their video on page 2 if you want to see what they do!
Second confirmed performance will be by Dutch Dame (see banner image at top of article), possibly in her popular new role as a rigger after years performing as a bondage model.
On page 2 of this article we’re also offering you two further videos — the first in a series shot for The Fetishistas at last year’s GFB Weekend by director/editor/cameraman Nikdesign and his team.
The first of these is an interview with GFB organiser René by Peter Monochrome, who earns our gratitude for conducting a whole series of interviews during last year’s event.
We’ll be releasing the rest in this series of short interview clips between now and the first week of May. Keep an eye out for them on Facebook and in the video section of The Fetishistas.
Thanks are also due to main camera Joachim Ljungquist and MC Kari Berg for their participation in the video project.
And kudos to Kari for ripping a certain heavy-handed security guard a new asshole when he tried to evict the Fetishistas team from our official backstage space!READ MORE
