Bal des Supplices parties in France’s libertine capital

Lyon, in southern France, seems an unlikely home for one of the country’s best fetish parties. But true to Lyon’s libertine tradition, Bal des Supplices matches what Paris offers and more. We see what’s in store at its sixth annual outing later this month

The Bal des Supplices, France’s premier perv paty outside Paris (or in all of France. depending on who you talk to) holds its next annual event on September 25.

With a military theme, the sixth annual Ball of Torments takes place in Lyon, the “libertine capital” of France, at the city’s Red Room venue.

It will be hosted by British duo Lucifire and Dave Tusk (aka Mr Lucifire), who will also perform a “crazy show” as Fire Tusk Pain Proof Circus. DJs will include Allen TG and Vyktor Nova.

Hel & Sophia — Brits Morrigan Hel and Sophia Landi — take a break from UK fetish club appearances and from barbecuing bands such as Motörhead and Cradle of Filth on their international tours to bring their high-octane, rock’n’roll fire-breathing act to the Lyon stage.

Polish performance group Suka Off, a favourite of Torture Garden in the UK, return to the BdS for what is promised to be “an intensive performance, mixing post-indus and body art”.

The group has presented work in theatres, art galleries and clubs in most European countries, as well as in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Japan.

Paris designer/photographer Josselin Guichard — whose Hedony Design label was the subject of our Fetishistas May cover story — will present his new latex collection for the first time in France, following its well-received international debut at the Montreal Fetish Weekend.

And making its first live appearance in Europe, the Russian latex label Rubear, founded in 2005, will present the textured latex fabrics developed by its Moscow-based team, with a little help from another Fetishistas cover star — French fetish supermodel Marie-Kalista.

Presiding over the torment aspect of the Ball of Torments will be dungeon mistress Maîtresse Salem, organiser of the well-known Brussels-based Fetish Project parties. The professional dominatrix will be on hand to demonstrate and ensure correct use of the SM equipment.

In association with the Ball, this year’s French Fetish Market will take place at Lyon bookstore/gallery Le Bal des Ardents.

Alongside various fetish exhibitors, the Fetish Market will see the launch of Marquis France, the French edition of the German/international fetish magazine.

And to celebrate the magazine launch, Bal des Supplices has created the Miss Marquis France contest, which will take place during the Ball. Prizes for this year’s winner will include a photo shoot with Peter W Czernich and coverage in Marquis magazine.

This year’s judges are Julien Reynaud, Marilyne, Maxime Avet, Cybex and Marie-Kalista.

The Bal des Supplices takes place on Saturday September 25 from 10pm to 5am at Red Room, Espace Porte de Lyon, Avenue de la Porte de Lyon, 69570 Dardilly.

The French Fetish Market takes place from 2pm to 7pm the same day at Bal des Ardents, 17 rue Neuve, 69001 Lyon.

Making its first appearance in Europe, the Russian latex label Rubear will present the textured fabrics developed by its Moscow-based team
