New Goedde photo exhibition at Sin City
Wednesday, 27 June 2012

Renowned photographer Steve Diet Goedde has an exhibition entitled New Works opening at Sin City Gallery in Las Vegas on July 5.

The exhibition, which runs until August 26, showcases Goedde’s recent erotic photography explorations, many of which feature his girlfriend and muse Yee, and also expand his traditional means of capturing images.

In addition to his trademark black and white medium-format work, Goedde finds inspiration from a variety of low-fi equipment such as point-and-shoot cameras and the iPhone. Many of the images of Yee have never been seen in public before and possess a very candid and personal feel.

Goedde, who left his St Louis home in 1985 to study film- making and painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, began taking erotic photographs in 1990. His highly recognisable work has adorned magazines and gallery walls worldwide and his models have included such icons as Dita Von Teese, Masuimi Max, Aria Giovanni, Justine Joli and Emily Marilyn.

In 1994 Fetishistas editor Tony Mitchell, then working at Skin Two, gave Steve his first magazine portfolio in Skin Two issue 15. In 1998 and 2001 respectively, the photographer’s work was presented in The Beauty of Fetish: Volumes I & II, two highly collectable hardcover monographs from renowned photography publisher Edition Stemmle.

In 2005 a career retrospective, Living Through Steve Diet Goedde — featuring animated photo galleries, interviews, commentary and behind-the-scenes footage — was released by Slish Pix on DVD.

Another milestone in the photographer’s career occurred in 2009 when he collaborated with French composer Robert Waechter on GoeddeConcerto, a French CD released by ReadyMade Music in which the concert master of the Philharmonic of Nice interpreted 21 of Goedde’s photographs into 21 mini-concertos.

Goedde, a Los Angeles resident for many years now, will be in Las Vegas on Thursday July 5 to attend the opening night of his Sin City exhibition. The gallery, at 107 E Charleston Boulevard, Suite 100, will host a reception between 6pm and 11pm and a Q&A with the artist at 8pm.
